At Roger Neilson House (RNH) we recognize that the grief of losing a child is a lifelong experience. We are offering this monthly group for parents to support one another through their grief experience. This group is facilitated by Social Work, and can be attended by any bereaved parent who has previously participated in RNH programming. When at the group, parents can expect a safe space to share their experience with others who understand, and an opportunity to develop friendships. Some sessions may include a specific topic or guest speaker.

NOTE: This group will run for 1.5 hours instead of the usual 1 hr length as we have a guest speaker – Joanne Doucette – joining us for this session.  Joanne Doucette MSW, RSW has been a Social Worker for over 20 years, and was a former member of the CHEO Palliative Care team and RNH. In private practice, Joanne focuses on supporting those with grief and trauma.

The focus of her session will be “Coping with the Holidays”

We look forward to discussing topics such as:

  • Use of ritual and ceremony to mourn your loved one
  • Boundaries in relationships – how to increase coping by setting healthy limits and asserting your needs as a priority
  • Nurturing an ongoing connection with your child as part of the grief journey.
